How to get more views on your videos
This video is the 6th one from a series of videos where we explain how we work with our clients to produce and promote their videos for content marketing, in 7 steps.
In the previous video, we talked about the 5th step: EDITING YOUR VIDEOS.
In this video we are going to talk about the 6th Step: POSTING YOUR VIDEOS. When you post a video, you want to take into account three things, which we often do for clients.
1. Create a custom thumbnail
Create a custom thumbnail for each video with your face on one side and your key phrase on the other. That's important for two reasons.
• One, YouTube is parsing these thumbnails to make sure that there's a face on it and also reads the text to make sure that your keyword is there. That's another signal that your keyword is indeed important.
• The second reason is that YouTube often tests your content quality by recommending it on other people's feeds; people who are similar to your organic viewers but haven't been exposed to your content before. If your thumbnail is compelling, it's very likely to draw clicks, and if the quality of your content is good, you'll get a high view rate. If that happens, YouTube will recommend you to more people and you'll expand your reach dramatically. That's how business videos on YouTube can go from a couple of hundred views to 10,000 views, 100,000 views. But first people have to click on them and that's where the thumbnail comes in.
2. Optimize your YouTube title
You also want to make sure that you optimize your title, which means that it starts with your key phrase and then you elaborate on it. Don't make the mistake to use natural language and bear your keywords towards the end of the sentence. The ranking algorithms are looking for as much signaling as possible about what's the right keyword to rank you for and you don't confuse them.
3. Optimize your YouTube description
And finally, you need an SEO optimized description for each video. That description needs to be at least 500 words long, and it needs to have the right keyword density, which you can test using a tool like Yoast SEO.
